Xylanase Treatment Suppresses Light- and Heat-Induced Yellowing of Pulp
Xylanase is commonly applied in pulp and paper industries to ease cost-related and environmental pressures. The effect of xylanase treatment on pulp bleaching is well-established, however, few studies were conducted on the effects of xylanase treatment in pulp yellowing, especially the mechanism of pulp yellowing inhibition by xylanase treatment. In this study, pure xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8) was ap...
متن کاملDiurnal spectral sensitivity of the acute alerting effects of light.
STUDY OBJECTIVES Previous studies have demonstrated short-wavelength sensitivity for the acute alerting response to nocturnal light exposure. We assessed daytime spectral sensitivity in alertness, performance, and waking electroencephalogram (EEG). DESIGN Between-subjects (n = 8 per group). SETTING Inpatient intensive physiologic monitoring unit. PARTICIPANTS Sixteen healthy young adults ...
متن کاملLight-adapted spectral sensitivity of the goldfish: a reflex measure.
Light-adapted spectral sensitivity of the goldfish was measured using the dorsal light reaction-the reflexive tendency of fish to tilt their dorsal surface toward bright light. Subjects were placed between two 150” extended monochromatic fields. one of which was always 532nm. The angle of tilt toward or away from the 532nm light was measured. and the relative intensities of the fields were adju...
متن کاملEnhancing the spectral sensitivity of interferometers using slow-light media.
We demonstrate experimentally that the spectral sensitivity of an interferometer can be greatly enhanced by introducing a slow-light medium into it. The experimental results agree very well with theoretical predictions that the enhancement factor of the spectral sensitivity is equal to the group index n(g) of the slow-light medium.
متن کاملAging of Non-Visual Spectral Sensitivity to Light in Humans: Compensatory Mechanisms?
The deterioration of sleep in the older population is a prevalent feature that contributes to a decrease in quality of life. Inappropriate entrainment of the circadian clock by light is considered to contribute to the alteration of sleep structure and circadian rhythms in the elderly. The present study investigates the effects of aging on non-visual spectral sensitivity to light and tests the h...
